23 October 1930 to 06 November 2018. 88 years old. The only child of Edward F. and Dorothy J. Kleinschmidt.

Stew is survived by his wife Marge Kleinschmidt of 64 years, married 21 August 1954. Their sons: Thomas E. (Ann), James W. (Linda), John F. (Elaine) Kleinschmidt. Grandsons Derek, Sean (Taylor) Kleinschmidt. Niece: Megan Freeberg (Jim), Nephew: David Caton (Sue) and their daughter Sarah. Step grand children: Nicolas, Michael, Jacqueline and two step great granddaughters.

He graduated from New Trier High School in Winnetka, completed DeVry electronics training, attended Northwestern University in Evanston and was mentored by German immigrant machinists.

A Korean war veteran; he served as a medic for a short time then as a watch and instrument repairman.

The consummate techie, he was a mechanical engineer at Kleinschmidt Laboratories – his grandfather Edward E. Kleinschmidt’s company in Highland Park and Deerfield. He then had his own business KES Engineering in Prospect Heights as a restorer, machinist and mechanical engineer.

An enthusiast for most things mechanical and electrical including model trains, time pieces, antique cars, vintage radio and “hi-fi”. He was an active member in many clubs that supported those interests including the Train Collectors Association, Classic Car Club of America, Nation Watch & Clock Association and Northwest Model Engineers.

A celebration of his life will be at 1 pm on Tuesday 20 November 2018 at First United Methodist Church, 1903 E. Euclid Ave., Arlington Heights, IL 60004 followed by light refreshments and fellowship at the church.

Interment will be private.
